Temporomandibular joint specialised treatment
Specialist assessment and treatment for jaw pain, malocclusion, TMJ dysfunction, disc problems and related headaches.

Understanding the area
The temporomandibular joint is a complex structure formed by the temporal and mandibular bones, supported by powerful muscles and ligaments and controlled by an extensive neurological network. Although small, it generates considerable force and dysfunction can be particularly painful and debilitating.
TMJ disorders rarely occur alone. Because of ascending biomechanical and neurological influences, evaluation of spinal function is an important part of assessing jaw dysfunction.
Five defence mechanisms
Fernando assesses five protective layers around the jaw. The number of affected layers helps determine the level of injury—from bite alignment at Level 1 to dislocation or fracture at Level 5—and informs a combined treatment plan.
